Another school year is winding down. We welcome home for the summer the members of our parish who have returned for summer break and congratulate those who have been graduated from institutions of higher learning this past Spring. We will be celebrating your return shortly, and invite all those of college age to our annual Coffee House on June 7th. Check the bulletin for further details.
High School graduation season is also upon us, and we congratulate and celebrate with all those who are being graduated this year. We invite all college and high school graduates to present themselves for a special blessing at all the Masses on the weekend of June 22nd and 23rd. Our annual send-off to college, military service, or community service/ volunteer service will be July 28th-29th weekend.
We will celebrate our own graduates from St. Benedict School on June 8th. The 68 students who are being sent forth from SBS are spreading their wings and attending high schools far and wide. We are proud of their accomplishments and wish them well. Their teachers have done a wonderful job in forming them as men and women ready to take on the challenges of the high school world. We pray for them and their families. This is the Fiftieth Class of graduates from SBS. With the continued support of all of you, we should be poised for the years ahead. We are facing some challenging times in terms of enrollment – the number of available students has diminished significantly over the past five years – but we are hopeful. We are always looking for creative ways to support the school in both the fiscal and personnel areas. If anyone out there has any expertise or ideas, please feel to let me know.
Sadly, two of our top teachers are leaving us and moving out of the area. Long time Art Teacher Joanne Mertz is retiring and moving to Virginia. She will be accompanied on this new venture in her life by her daughter Ashley Mertz who teaches seventh grade ILA. While we are able to fill the art position with an in-house move, we are looking for a full time seventh grade ILA specialist, as well as part-time teachers in mathematics (algebra) and world languages. If you are interested, or know someone who is, please send a cv to the school office asap. Thank you! We are also still taking applications for part-time maintenance and handyman. Please send to the attention of Bob Cognat.
This weekend, Pentecost weekend, we pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit in our lives as individuals and as the Church. In a special way we pray for all of our graduates – whether from pre-school or with a doctoral degree – that all will seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit as they discern God’s will for their lives.
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of the faithful …
