So many moving pieces – such a challenging time to live in and especially in which to do pastoral ministry.
Here, as with many other parishes in the diocese, the attendance at the first open weekend for Masses was lighter than expected. This was probably a good thing, as it shows the seriousness with which people are still taking the pandemic and its effects. At the same most of us should be ready to overcome our reticence and get about a routine.
While we restricted at 70 years old those coming to Mass on the weekend, we do not feel that such is any longer necessary. Everyone is able to use his or her best judgment as to whether or not they want to come out. It is challenging, but we need some freedom.
The ticketing of the seats worked well, as does the distribution of Holy Communion at the end of Mass. We are suspending tickets for the 5:00 pm Gym Mass only, to assist those who are not computer-savvy in attending Mass. Hopefully this eases the burden a bit.
Daily Mass attendance has also been sporadic. If you are interested in attending Mass during the week – 9:00 am – please call the parish office Monday – Friday and speak to Margaret Roddy. We have limited seating available.
Please know that the church is being professionally sanitized between all weekend Masses, after each daily Mass, and also after the Hall of Saints is open for private prayer. Masks are still required to enter the building.
The parish office does conduct business as normal, but it is best to call in first in order to make your visit easier and quicker. We are hoping to see restrictions eased soon.
School registration is going well. We are also conducting the summer religious academy using virtual technology this year. We plan to use the same style for the traditional model in the fall.
As things change and we can open up more we will keep you informed.
