The Second Sunday of Lent always draws our focus to the Transfiguration of the Lord. This stands as a reminder of the paradox of the Cross. Jesus, the Incarnate Son, dies so that he might be raised from the dead and take his seat at the Right Hand of the Father. The Transfiguration connects Jesus to the history of salvation (Moses and Elijah) and the promise of salvation to come through his own paschal sacrifice.
Our Lenten journey continues this week with our usual activities: Women’s Bible Study; Stations of the Cross (Wed 5:30 and Fri 7), and Soup and Scripture (Wed 6). Hopefully you are able to participate in some of these opportunities for prayer and study. Also, remember that our Adoration Chapel is always open for private prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.
This weekend we launch the Annual Catholic Appeal. Carol DeMuria, parish coordinator of the appeal, is speaking at all of the Masses. We were able to maintain the same goal this year ($90,000) that we had last year, even though we were well over the goal. We received a $26,000 check from the appeal for our share of last year’s overage this past week. Thank you for your generous support of the diocese. I trust that we will be able to exceed the goal again this year.
Last weekend Father Christopher Colavito was supposed to be with us to preach about vocations at all of the Masses. Unfortunately he came down with a bad cold and did not feel comfortable coming. He will reschedule for another weekend.
This week we get to experience the quadrennial novelty of Leap Day. While I am sure there is a joke in there somewhere, I just hope everyone enjoys the extra day.
Not much else -- just the business of Lent and our preparations for Holy Week.
Continue to observe the Fast and abstain as you are able.
