We have just come through a most beautiful stretch of fall weather, but we certainly need some rain. We are on target for the least amount of rain in any October since they have been keeping records. Praying for rain is not a bad thing to do. There is even a Votive Mass for rain in the Roman Missal.
This coming Friday, November 1, is the Holy day of Obligation celebrating All Saints. The Mass times are: Thursday at 7pm; Friday at 9am and 5pm. Please make every effort to attend. Saturday is the Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed, a time to remember and pray for all those who are deceased. There are special commemoration envelopes, which will be placed before the altar throughout the month. Our Mass commemorating all those who have been buried through our parish is scheduled for Tuesday,November 19 at 7pm. All are invited to attend.
On November 8 the Mass Book for intentions opens for the year 2025. Further along in the bulletin you will find a request form. Please bring a completed form with you on November 8th as it will make the process much easier.
This weekend we are showing a brief video from Bishop O’Connell before all the Masses. Here he speaks of faithful citizenship as we prepare for the national and state elections next week. This is a tense time in our nation, and a rather dangerous time in our world. While the church endorses no political candidate for any office, we do yet follow some normative guidelines and are asked to vote according to our conscience. I hope that everyone is carefully considering all of the options on every level, and will vote and vote according to how you discern the best candidates. Frankly, it is the post election period for which I am most concerned, as I am sure that neither party will peaceably accept the results.
On more local news, we are now looking for a maintenance staff person. Some specific carpentry or other technical skills, and certainly a black seal license are helpful, they are not absolutely necessary. Please make contact with Pat Tobino in the HR office.
As the winter season approaches the needs of the underprivileged and marginalized increase greatly. Please be as generous as you can in food donations to the pantry. If you would like to assist the St. Vincent de Paul Society directly, then please send donations to them directly, or designate the donation specifically when you place it in the basket here.
I hope that everyone has a blessed week, Fr. Garry
