A most joyful Independence Holiday Weekend to all. Although Friday was the actual holiday, we are all still in celebration mode this weekend and hopefully everyone is still off on Monday for recovery and travel.
Obviously the Fourth of July is always a good time for us to remember the freedoms that we enjoy in this country, both as citizens and residents, and the opportunities that such freedoms extend to us. As a child I remember the fourth as a significant holiday as my Grandfather Koch loved to celebrate July 4 and bedecked his yard with American flags long before such extensive decorations were popular. We were never sure if it was because he loved to celebrate the fourth or if it was just an extension of his birthday which was the third! I hope you all enjoyed your own festivities.
The quiet of the summer ends this week here at St. Benedict as we now begin the Summer Religious Education Academy and the Summer Camp-Out for the school. This means that the school building will be alive with the sounds of children once again, serving the needs of our parish community. It looks like it should be a very busy summer around here.
In the few weeks since school ended we have accomplished a few projects, as I have noted in previous bulletins, with a few more projected for August.
You may have noticed the piercing sound of silence before Mass and at the Angelus hours. Unfortunately the power outage and surge of the June 19 storm took out the bell system, so we had to send it off for evaluation and repair or replacement. Hopefully we are back up and running soon. We don’t realize how much we rely on the bells until we realize that we are running late for Mass because we weren’t paying attention to the time! I guess that should have been an “I” sentence and not a “we” sentence, I was just hoping someone else would agree with me!
All good here as we prepare for the excitement ahead!
