A most blessed Thanksgiving week to all! I hope all travel safely and enjoy time with family and friends during this wonderful holiday. I also remind you to pause and focus on the “why” for this holiday. More than turkey, parades, and football, is we are centered on “giving thanks” to almighty God for life, our freedoms, and the many blessings bestowed upon us, our country, our family, and those whom we love and serve. Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 9:00 am.
Last weekend we had the great pleasure of celebrating Deacon Anthony Cullen and his ordination to service in our parish. I wish to express my gratitude to Ellen Remick and the children’s choir, to the many altar servers, the lectors, our deacons, and the parish staff for their work in preparing for the day. Thank you also to the Marshall Family, owners of Hangar 36 (formerly Perkins) for catering the breakfast, the Knights of Columbus for their support, Patti Dickens for her organization of the event, and Rich Romero and the maintenance crew for working overtime to cover the event and prepare for school on Monday.
Next Sunday we celebrate the First Sunday of Advent. We will bless the candles for the advent wreaths in your homes at all of the Masses next weekend. Our parish Christmas tree lighting is on Saturday, December 6th following the 5:00 pm Mass. With all new LED lights, the tree should look particularly striking this year.
The holiday season provides many opportunities to contribute to the welfare of the community. This Tuesday the RAINE foundation hosts their annual Thanksgiving dinner in our cafeteria. Gifts for the giving trees should be donated by next weekend, and volunteers for RAINE to wrap and prepare the gifts are always welcome.
The Knights of Columbus are selling wreaths and grave blankets, as well as their Christmas trees, this weekend in the Narthex.
Reflect on all of the many gifts you have received this year, and give thanks.
