This weekend we observe Marriage Weekend, and we reflect on the importance of the Sacrament of Marriage in the development of society and the formation of families. The public sharing of vows before a priest or deacon, expressing one’s intention to remain faithful to the marital covenant freely and without reservation, builds up the community, and provides the grace necessary to fulfill those promises. It is not easy, but it is the call that the vast majority of people have in their lives. Lori McCahill, Director of Marriage Ministry, and her “plus-one” Mike, are addressing our ministry and some initiatives of that ministry at all of the Masses this weekend. Anyone who is civilly married should seek the convalidation of their marriage to make it a sacramental marriage. This is generally a very easy and simple process. Please make contact with Lori for more information.
February 11 is the World Day of the Sick. We will celebrate a Mass of Anointing at 1pm, those who are chronically ill, suffering the effects of declining health, undergoing serious medical treatment, or preparing for surgery, should attend and present themselves for the anointing. Anytime someone is seriously ill, or preparing for surgery, or in danger of death, please call the parish office or the priest emergency line, to arrange for anointing. It is best not to wait until the “last minute” as things don’t always happen on an immediate timeline. Do not be afraid to call and request the sacrament. If you are preparing for a procedure you can always present yourself to the priest after Mass as well, and you can be anointed then.
We are preparing for the celebration of Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. The Lenten regulations and the times for the services are in the bulletin.
There is one more round of Open Houses for the school this coming Friday. Several classes are already full and most of them are nearing capacity. If you are interested in SBS, please make contact with the school this week.
Likewise, please register for the Summer Religious Ed Academy as soon as possible, so that we can secure the staffing we need. The Summer Camp-Out is also open for registration now as well.
We will be officially launching the Annual Catholic Appeal in two weeks, but recent donors have already received their response cards in the mail. Please be as generous as you are able to this appeal. More information will follow.
Enjoy the Super Bowl Today -- and may those of you traveling next weekend be safe. Stay warm! Father Garry
